Creating a pretty and glamorous up-do in 2 minutes or less!

Tuesday, 12 November 2013

I have no real flair for hair, which is why as soon as I had the chance, I* took a pair of shears to my hair and cut it all off so that I could get back to the short and sassy hair that I love, and the impact that it has had on my on a day to day basis is just astounding.
Call me vain, but it has made a difference to my life.
Having to grow my hair out for a wedding meant that for the last 6 months leading up to the big day I just came to hate my hair, I didn't feel like myself, I never knew what to do with it, washing and drying it was such a laborious task - it's cut and uniform length really made me feel very dowdy at times, now I feel like I am fueled on helium, my hair is light and moves and has such a lot of natural volume that I don't really have to do much for it to look polished.

I'm not super sassy with hair styling, or even hair care. Caring for long hair is a hell of a lot different to caring for shorter/medium length hair. So the only real problem with my hair is now that it looks pretty much the same every day (which it did when it was long, but I suppose I had the choice of hair up or hair down). It's too short to go properly into a ponytail, which is hardly the height of fashionable hairstyles anyway, so I decided that I would give it a try to essentially randomly pin up sections of my hair, twisting some into pin-like curl formations on my head.

I got better and quicker with this as I'd do it and I loved how it looked a lot more intricate than it was. So I figure this is just ideal for situations when I'm looking for something a little more dressy than 'hair down'

*it wasn't actually 'I' but a trained hairdresser, thank goodness

Disney Outfit inspiration! Pixar- Up

Thursday, 28 February 2013

February is the shortest month which makes me a little sad already that it is over!
But here's a super fun post to brighten up your Thursday...
If you've ever seen Disney Pixars 'Up' then you probably love Ellie!
Here is some outfit inspiration from Ellie that you can get in real life...

Outfit inspired by Ellie from Disney Pixar's Up: Green dress, purple scarf, motorcycle boots

This is a super fun and playful safari outfit that is made a little more feminine by using a dress rather than shorts. You could add a leather belt rather than a khaki one to make it a little more special.

Outfit inspired by Ellie from Disney Pixar's Up: Yellow Dress, Mary-Janes, camera necklace
This is such a pretty sun dress, and if you don't have a super cute old fashioned camera, you could buy a camera inspired piece of jewelerry

Outfit inspired by Ellie from Disney Pixar's Up: Purple jeans, floral top, TOMS
A pretty pink and purple floral outfit, I think jeans look much cuter tucked up in Spring like how Ellie wears them!

Freshening up your wardrobe for Spring- I can hardly wait!

The after... but no before!

Tuesday, 22 January 2013

I have just come in from a night out and I have to say I never get tired of the feeling of removing my makeup, I did a brown/ taupey smokey eye tonight and I liked how it came out, I'm sad I forgot to take a picture but I always seem to be in a rush when I'm getting ready!

Instead I present you with these two beautiful 'after' shots which are not glamorous in any way, but it's 2:30 in the morning! What do you expect!

 Ready for my close up!
This sempt like a good idea when I was taking it...

Snuggling down in my duvet, night night!

Packing up again!

Friday, 18 January 2013

It's that time when I have to pack everything up into a suitcase, take it all out again and repack, then repeat several times until everything just about fits, then I drag my luminous pink suitcase up and down stairs and escalators and on and off trains until I can breathe a sigh of relief when I am back home!

I was going to take a picture of my suitcase, but I do this every time I travel I'm sure you know what my suitcase looks like!

On a brighter note... My mum has made me the most delicious brownies for the journey so that makes it seem a little sweeter!

They look like they have snow on them!
Outside my window right now a lot of snow is falling which makes me nervous for how smooth the journey will go.. we shall see...

Staying awake Sunday nights

Sunday, 14 October 2012

Who says that I don't know how to have a crazy time on the weekend?

Well.. me, I'm sat on my maybe 4th or 5th hot chocolate of the evening trying to stay awake to get my work finished for Monday morning. I'm not a coffee drinker (coffee breath makes me gag) and I want to make my teeth brighter not browner!

Things that are good about tonight:

I'm not the only one working around the kitchen table

We are all taking turns to play a classical music 'study' song to lighten the mood

I have hot chocolate WITH marshmallows

It's raining while I'm INSIDE

Things that are not so good:

I had to run OUTSIDE in the rain to pick up a longed for library book I had reserved

I've drunk so much hot chocolate I just feel full up and need a nap

I'm concentrating more on being a study DJ than studying

Who even understands what any of the chapter in this book says anyway??

Outdoor Cinema

Sunday, 26 August 2012

My friend and I had the funnest evening, the sort of thing that a high school couple would do in the 50s or so it felt!
We went to an outdoor cinema screening in a park in London
I tried to take pictures but they all came out bad in the light, so this is the best I've got to show you

Which makes it look as though the nigh was really foggy, when it was actually pretty clear!
The screen itself was inflatable, like a giant inflatable cinema screen, then a little projector under a tent which of course projected onto the screen itself!

The film we saw was Scott Pilgrim Vs The world which is just the sort of film that you would want to see outside in the dark, seeing a horror film would be a different experience altogether, and not a positive one.
We had a little bit of a 'rain scare' where there were three sets of rain but they were only light showers and didn't last any longer than five minutes each so hooray for not needing a brolly and only needing plaid picnic blankets!

Wake me up- before you go go!

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Getting up is the first challenge of my day, every single day.
I am a bad getter-upper even when I've had a full night sleep!
I've tried them 'sunrise' alarm clocks before to try and ease me into waking up but I would always sleep straight through the light getting brighter and just end up late.
When I got to grips with the fact that I can't avoid that 'ughraghshh' wake up feeling I can join it- and make it better, happier!
Starting with....
My wake up song, or alarm clock song that is set on my phone is now super important as it can set up my mood for a whole day, but remember to change it often (every fortnight or so) otherwise you will get sick of it and come to hate the song because you will associate it with waking you up in the morning...

So without further ado here is my morning-happy-alarm songs to keep you going for a while!

Something to get your heart pumping and feeling like you can take the day on:

One of my favourites and it's slow and breezy at first:

Something to get you feeling good- haha:

One of my favourite alarm songs but was so afraid of ruinging a song that I love, that I changed it quickly to my current alarm clock song!:

My current alarm song!:

If none of them are working for you, just opt for a song that slowly builds up rather than something that begins with a 'BANG' otherwise it will just aggrivate you in the morning, and won't have you jumping out of bed with a smile on your face.
